0–2: a redesign is probably overkill. Fix the specific problems with Accelerate instead.

3 or more: you're patching a store you've outgrown. It's time to talk about a rebuild.

Talk it through
How a redesign runs

8–12 weeks. Zero fluff.

You see and approve everything before it goes live.

  1. Weeks 1–2

    Discover

Analytics, session recordings, customer feedback and a competitor review. We find out why shoppers leave empty-handed. Spoiler: it's rarely what you'd guess.

↳ A fix list, ranked by impact
  2. Weeks 2–6

    Design

Art direction, UX and copy made side by side, so nothing gets lost in translation. Designs you can click through on your phone.

    ↳ Signed-off designs
  3. Weeks 5–10

    Build

A custom Shopify theme with editable sections, your apps connected and tracking wired in, tested on the phones your customers carry.

↳ A store ready to launch
  4. Weeks 10–12

    Launch

SEO checks, final testing, and the new theme published with no downtime. Then we keep testing and keep the winners.

↳ Live, and a roadmap for what's next
What doesn't change

New store. Same foundations.

The things that already work stay put.

Exploded diagram of a Shopify store: only the theme layer is replaced; apps are reviewed; products, customers and URLs are kept 01 NEW THEME 02 APPS · REVIEWED 03 PRODUCTS · KEPT 04 CUSTOMERS · KEPT 05 URLS · KEPT
  1. 01Theme: designed and built from scratch. The only layer we replace.
  2. 02Apps: the good ones stay. The ones patching theme gaps often go, because the new theme does the job itself.
  3. 03Products and data: your catalogue, prices, stock and metafields don't move. We design around them.
  4. 04Customers and orders: accounts, order history, subscriptions and reviews are untouched. Nobody signs up again.
  5. 05URLs: product and collection addresses stay the same on Shopify, so years of Google trust carry straight over.

Moving from WooCommerce, Wix or Squarespace at the same time? URLs will change, so the move needs a full redirect plan. Here's how we handle migrations.

Questions

Good questions. Straight answers.

How much does a Shopify redesign cost?

It depends on how many page types need designing, how much custom functionality you need, and whether you're also migrating from another platform.

We scope every redesign after a free strategy call and give you a fixed price before any work starts. No surprise invoices. For a feel of the wider costs, see what a Shopify store costs in Australia.

How long does a Shopify redesign take?

A full redesign typically takes 8 to 12 weeks from kick-off to launch: research and discovery, design, a custom theme build, then testing and launch. Smaller refreshes of a few key pages can be much quicker.

Will a redesign hurt our SEO?

It shouldn't. When you stay on Shopify, your product and collection URLs stay the same, which removes the biggest risk. We carry over page titles, descriptions and content, redirect any URL that does change, and check Google Search Console after launch.

Can we keep selling while you redesign the store?

Yes. The new design is built on a separate, unpublished theme in your Shopify store. Your current store keeps trading as normal, and we publish the new theme once it's tested and signed off.

Should we customise our theme or get a custom theme?

Customise your current theme when it's fast and well built and the problem is mostly how it's been set up, when the layouts suit how you sell and just need to be sharper, or when budget is tight and you want the biggest wins for the least spend. That kind of work often fits Accelerate at A$50 an hour.

Go custom when you're fighting the theme (layouts it can't do, apps bolted on to fill the gaps), when speed is suffering with no clean fix, when your brand needs to stand apart from every store on the same template, or when you want sections designed for your products. Either way you own the result: a custom theme we build is yours, with no licence to renew.

Do we need new product photos for a redesign?

Not always. We design around the photography you have and flag the few shots that would make the biggest difference, usually lifestyle images for the home page and detail shots for product pages.
